What’s Up There

Six Things Between Him and Home

Every obstacle has exactly one honest answer, and the game tells you which one while the guides are on.

Gaps between buildings
Jump. Wide ones need the second jump, and the row of floating tungs shows you the arc.
Chimneys
Jump. They’re solid brick and there’s no way under them.
Alley cats
Jump over them, or drum: a startled cat is worth more than a dodged one.
Water tanks
Slide. They stand on legs, so there’s a gap underneath and nothing but tank above.
Laundry lines
Slide. Sheets hang from the line down to head height and he’ll run straight into them.
Pigeon flocks
Drum, or slide under. Pigeons won’t move for a running log, but they will for a loud one.

Tips

How to Get Home

Most first runs end in a gap around 400 metres. The runs that reach the front door are the ones that never stop drumming.

  1. 1

Hold the jump for height, let go early for a hop. A tapped jump clears a chimney without sending you over the far edge.

  2. 2

Save the second jump. It’s a rescue, not a routine: use it when you mistime a take-off, not on every gap.

  3. 3

Drum on cooldown. It costs nothing, fills the meter and wakes windows, so there’s no reason to run past a facade in silence.

  4. 4

Chase the tungs. They’re always laid along a safe arc, so following them is also the safest way over a gap.

  5. 5

Slide early rather than late. The slide lasts half a second and holds itself if something is still overhead.

  6. 6

Bank the frenzy before a hard stretch. Golden Sahur smashes through hazards, so a full meter is a free pass through the worst of it.

  7. 7

Falling is the one thing the frenzy won’t save you from. Gaps still have to be jumped, golden or not.

Where It Runs

There’s no app, no APK and no installer. It’s a web page, so if the browser opens, the run starts.

Desktop & laptop
Windows, macOS, Linux and ChromeOS in Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari. Keyboard or mouse.
School Chromebooks
One static page, no plugins and no installer, so it runs wherever the network allows the site.
Requirements
A modern browser with canvas. Nothing to download, no account, and the artwork is drawn rather than loaded.

The Story

A Runner About the Round

Before dawn during Ramadan, someone walks the neighbourhood banging a kentongan to wake everyone for sahur. Tung Tung Tung Sahur is that drum. So this isn’t a runner with a drum bolted on: the drum is the scoring, the round is the level, and the finish line is getting home before the sun beats you to it.

FAQ

Questions, Answered

These are about the runner. For the meme — the name, the origin, the lore and who owns him — see the full FAQ. Prefer a game you play with your ears? Find Tung Tung Tung Sahur is the other one.

How Do You Play Tung Tung Runner?

He runs by himself across the rooftops. You jump the gaps and the chimneys, slide under the water tanks and laundry lines, and bang the drum to wake the windows you pass. Waking windows is where most of the points are, so the best runs are the loud ones.

Is There an End, or Does It Just Go Forever?

Both. Rooftop Run is a 1500-metre route that ends at his own front door at sunrise — you can finish it. Endless Night has no finish line and keeps speeding up. Daily Route is the same route as everyone else gets that day.

What Is the Sahur Meter and the Golden Frenzy?

The meter fills as you collect floating tungs and wake windows. When it's full he turns into Golden Sahur for 7.5 seconds: he runs faster, scores double, drums by himself and smashes straight through chimneys, cats and tanks. Gaps still have to be jumped.

What Do I Do About the Cats and the Pigeons?

Alley cats sit on the roof and have to be jumped over — or scared off with the drum, which scores more. Pigeon flocks hover at head height: drum at them, or slide underneath. Anything the drum can move is worth points for moving it.

Can I Play It With One Hand on a Phone?

Yes. Tap anywhere on the right to jump, tap again in mid-air for the second jump, swipe down to slide, and tap the left edge to drum. The two touch zones are marked on screen while you play.

Can I Play Without Sound?

Yes. Nothing in the run is hidden in the audio — the sound is there because he’s a drum, not because you need it. Guides are on by default and label every hazard JUMP, SLIDE or DRUM, with a dotted arc showing where a jump lands.

Is It Free? Do I Need an Account?

It’s free, with no account, no download and no ads. Your distance, best scores and daily streak are saved in your browser, so clearing site data resets them.

Is This a Horror Game? Is It Scary?

No. It’s a night-time rooftop runner with cartoon cats and pigeons. Nothing chases you, there are no jumpscares, and the worst that happens is a wooden log falling between two houses.

Is It Suitable for Kids?

Yes. No violence, no chat, no ads and no sign-up. Rooftop Run is the gentlest way in: it starts slow, and the guides explain every obstacle before you reach it.

Why Is He Running Across Rooftops?

Because that's the job. A kentongan drummer walks the neighbourhood before dawn during Ramadan waking people for sahur, and this is that round with the roofs joined up. More about who he is.

Is This the Official Tung Tung Tung Sahur Runner Game?

No. It’s an independent, fan-made game inspired by the meme. The artwork is original, the character is drawn from scratch every frame, and every sound is generated live in your browser.
